The Retrospective (working title) is a satirical assault on the pretentiousness of the white-cube-gallery world. It comprises a body of self-critiquing work that seeks to remind us how much bullsh*t there is in the art world of today, incorporating videos and physical 'artworks'. Please find below some videos (embedded from YouTube) and images of the work so far.
Although most of my time has been taken up with my assault on pretentious art, I have recently begun to find time to once more pursue my love of painting. I am attempting to continue honing the style I began to develop in Autumn 2014 - a sort of Surrealist-Cubist hybrid. My aim is to create a sense of the abstract that combines bizarre transformations with recognisable forms.
The work below, 'The Scientists', is my first ever oil painting. Before now, I have worked solely with acrylic mediums to produce my paintings. After this piece, I plan to continue my foray into oil painting. In terms of context, the piece is about funding issues in the sciences, as well as other restrictions placed on the many facets of the field that prevent it delivering as much as it could were it totally unrestrained. Of course, this would have implications, but the possibility of it is my point of interest here.
